Which Door will you Choose?

May 02, 2021 | Gary Jackson

Passage: 1 Corinthians 16:8-9

1 Corinthians 16:8-9 (KJV) 8 But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. 9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

All the doors from the outside look good but what is behind is vastly different

  1. Door of Self

Luke 9:57-62 (KJV) 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

“Sin is my claim to my right for myself” – Oswald Chambers.

“Sin is self-coronation” – Vincent Taylor

Simply stated sin is denying the crown to Jesus Christ and placing it on self.

  1. They all had something “good to do”

Luke 9:57-58 (KJV) 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said                           unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him,                                     Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay                           his head. - Have a home

Luke 9:59 (KJV) 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to                         go and bury my father. – Bury his father

Luke 9:61 (KJV) 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them                        farewell, which are at home at my house.. – Say good bye to family

Running from the will of God is not always wanting to do “bad” things – it is not doing the ONE        THING GOD ask YOU TO DO – God does bargin

  1. Running from the will of God is making anything else a priority

Matthew 6:33 (KJV) 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all     these things shall be added unto you.

  1. Running from the will of God is LOVING someone or something else more than God

                        - First it was his home

                        - Second it was his father

                        - Third it was his family

  1. Door of Society – Pilate

Matthew 27:19-25 (KJV) 19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. 22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

  1. Majority is seldom right ( broad is the way – narrow is the path)

Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV) 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and                             broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in                                  thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto                                   life, and few there be that find it.

Proverbs 16:25 (KJV) 25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man,

but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Are you willing to stand alone??

  1. The Majority have a different goal than pleasing God

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that                            cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that                          diligently seek him.

God always requires us to LIVE by Faith

                                    - Faith to Witness to people

                                    - Faith to Wait for His Promises

                                    - Faith to Willing Give – this is more than a tithe

  1. The majority let others think for them – God gave you intellect and will

Numbers 14:1-10 (KJV) 1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried;                           and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel murmured against                                Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would                          God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this                             wilderness! 3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by                             the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better                         for us to return into Egypt? 4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain,                 and let us return into Egypt. 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all                               the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of                                  them that searched the land, rent their clothes: 7 And they spake unto all the                              company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to                                    search it, is an exceeding good land. 8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring                           us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. 9 Only                           rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are                          bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear                            them not. 10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory                       of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the                                                 children of Israel.

III. Door of Savior

Acts 9:1-6 (KJV) 1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

  1. The will of God has UNLIMITED possibilities

Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) 3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great                              and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

David was a shepherd boy that became a King!

  1. The Will of God has all the resources required

“The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.”     ― Billy Graham

Philippians 4:19 (KJV) 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches      in glory by Christ Jesus.

  1. The will of God will always satisfy

John 14:27 (KJV) 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world     giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Series Information

Paul's favorite church may have well been the church at Philippi. He shares three things that are encouraging to him and should be part of our life. He first give Thanks - there is always reason for the child of God to give thanks. Secondly he prayers. We must always pray one for another. Three Paul is confident that God will complete the good work He has started in our life.
