Have You Seen Jesus ?

Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:1-54

1 Corinthians 15:1-26 (KJV) 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

  1. Resurrection Satisfied Scripture

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

Matthew 17:9 (KJV) 9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

Matthew 17:22-23 (KJV) 2 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: 23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

Matthew 20:17-19 (KJV) 17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, 18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Matthew 26:30-32 (KJV) 30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

John 2:18-21 (KJV) 18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

Luke 24:6-8 (KJV) 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words,

Anyone could die but ONLY ONE could arise from the dead!

Acts 1:3 (KJV) 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

  1. Cross Showed Sin Debt Paid in Full – Resurrection it was Accepted

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

Paid the Sin Debt

  1. Payment God required

Genesis 2:15-17 (KJV) 15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Leviticus 17:11 (KJV) 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

  1. Jesus from the Cross

Jesus uttered 7 sayings from the Cross

(Ryrie Study Bible Notes) The Seven Cries From the Cross

  1. "Father, forgive them -" Luke 23:34
  2. "Today you will be with me -" Luke 23:43
  3. "Dear woman, here is your son -" John 19:26-27
  4. "My God, my God -" Matt 27:46-47; Mark 15:34-36
  5. "I am thirsty." John 19:28
  6. "It is finished." John 19:30
  7. "Father, into your hands -" Luke 23:46

The sixth “It is finished

Greek Word “TETELESTAI” One word in Greek – Three words in English “Paid in Full”

Hebrews 9:22-26 (KJV) 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

  1. Veil ripped in two

Matthew 27:50-53 (KJV) 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the        bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened;             and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his             resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

  • Veil Curtain separating Holy of Holies from rest of the Temple
  • Ripped from top (God in Heaven)

III. Resurrection Assures Us of our Mission is not in Vain

1 Corinthians 15:13-19 (KJV) 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

  1. Pupose (preaching is not in vain)

  1. Power (power in our message)

And oh to see the dawn of the darkest day

Christ on the road to Calvary

Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten

Then nailed to a cross of wood

This the power of the cross

Christ became sin for us

Took the blame, bore the wrath

We stand forgiven at the cross

And oh to see the pain written on Your face

Bearing the awesome weight of sin

And every bitter thought, every evil deed

Crowning Your bloodstained brow

This the power of the cross

Christ became sin for us

Took the blame, bore the wrath

We stand forgiven at the cross

And oh to see my name written in the wounds

For through Your suffering I am free

And death is crushed to death and life is mine to live

Won through Your selfless love

This the power of the cross

Son of God slain for us

What a life, what a cost

We stand forgiven at the cross

This the power of the cross

Christ became sin for us

He look the blame, bore the wrath

We stand forgiven at the cross

  1. Resurrection Settles our Hope of Resurrection I Corth 15

Job 14:14 (KJV) 14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

1 Corinthians 15:13-19 (KJV) 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

  1. I will Be changed

1 Corinthians 15:51-54 (KJV) 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for         the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be    changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on             immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written,   Death is swallowed up in victory.

  1. I will be with Jesus

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 (KJV) 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,          concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no            hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord             himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and         with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the          air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  1. I will be with loved ones!

and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be        caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  1. I will be in Heaven

Revelation 21:2-5 (KJV) 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down         from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a    great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will      dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and    be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no         more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the          former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto   me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

  1. Resurrection Seals the Promise of His Coming

Acts 1:9-11 (KJV) 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

  1. Have Confidence

Revelation 3:11 (KJV) 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no   man take thy crown.

Revelation 22:7 (KJV) 7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Revelation 22:12-13 (KJV) 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to   give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning         and the end, the first and the last.

  1. Be Committed

Matthew 24:42-46 (KJV) 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the         thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be    broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of             man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom      his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

Series Information

Paul's favorite church may have well been the church at Philippi. He shares three things that are encouraging to him and should be part of our life. He first give Thanks - there is always reason for the child of God to give thanks. Secondly he prayers. We must always pray one for another. Three Paul is confident that God will complete the good work He has started in our life.
